Description
One of the most consistently high-performing estates in Pomerol, Château l’Evangile has a history dating back to 1741. In 1990 l’Evangile was sold to the owners of Château Lafite Rothschild, who have invested heavily in the estate with a new vat room, cellars and improvements in the vineyard. The vineyard covers an area of 22 hectares on the perimetre of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion in between the illustruous Petrus and Cheval Blanc over the border. The vineyard, like its neighbours Cheval Blanc and Figeac, includes a gravel outcrop making it atypical of the Pomerol terroir. The vineyard is planted to Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Without a classification system to fall back on communication is the key in Pomerol after quality. A new management team at Domaines Baron de Rothschild helmed by Saskia de Rothschild and Jean-Guillaume Prats is sure to change the reputation of this gem and make this a brand to keep a close eye on.
